Prof Dr.Bauke Dijkstra
Prof Dijkstra is the lead researcher in the Protein Crystallography Group at Biophysical Chemistry Laboratory, University of Groningen, Netherland. The group explores the 3-dimensional structure of proteins. Their research goal is to gain insight into the functioning of biomacromolecules at the atomic level. Several of the research projects are directed towards the elucidation of reaction mechanisms and protein engineering. The group is also active in pursuing protein bioinformatics, cloning of genes encoding for specific enzymes, enzyme purification, crystallization and x-ray crystallography. The current projects being actively undertaken by the group include cell wall metabolism, redox enzymes, carbohydrate uptake, carbohydrate binding / processing, lipolytic enzymes, cell cycle and maintenance, oxygenases, enzymes for drug synthesis and Shigella host invasion factors. Dr. Teun Boekhout Visit - 27 March 2008

On 27 Mac 2008, Dr. Teun paid a visit in Malaysia. He was invited by Dr. Munir and Dr. Farah to present on 'Comparative Genomics of Basidiomycetous Yeasts' and 'Efficient Publication Strategies for Microbiologists'. I think it was a very rewarding talk from him. Besides that, Dr. Munir gave a presentation on 'Current Effort on L.antarcticum Genome Sequence'. There were two other presenter which were Kak Bulat from UKM (Production of Recombinant antifreeze Protein from L. antarcticum) and Mohd Shukuri from UPM (Characterization of Lipase and Protease of L. antarcticum). It was actually a very interesting presentation. This event was attended by rep from UKM, UPM, USM and UTM.

last 15th-17th february..lab members involved in cutinase, yeast, psychrophiles and WGS went to d langkawi for d quarterly meeting.. d journey was fine..except for some incidents like... kena tolak van, tayar kereta pecah, kereta rosak, gaduh ngn uncle india, salah slot card bilik, gayat naik kabel car,..huhuhuh...tau2 jekla sape eh.....meeting was on saturday..bertubi-tubi meeting..penin kepala..(especially group cutinase-byk yg tak paham sebenarnye..tapi wat2 paham..;)..foods?erm..no comment..maybe chin can comment on that part.. d presenters:cutinase-chin(seems like he improved a lot..dah tak dengar dah bunyi nafas kamu kat mic chin!!!sory termengumpat dlm blog!!); psychrophiles- jo ann(ok wat even 1st time); yeast-douglas; WGS-bos Dr.Munir sendiri ah..and i'm sure that everybody go to langkawi will borong cokolat!!..me also..heheheso next meeting?dont know who's going... p/s: to mahzan; bile nak upload vidoe jangan pandang belakang korang?!
